Why I'm Running

 Op-ed by Eric Schwenker

My Name is Eric Schwenker and I write to you today announcing my campaign for Warren County Family Court Judge.

Family Court is where children and families often face some of the most challenging and emotional moments of their lives, and they deserve a judge who will listen, treat them with respect, and approach each case with fairness, common sense, and empathy.  To that end, Family Court requires an attachment to this community’s values.  That is why I am running for Family Court.

As a lifelong resident, I believe in the strength and values of our community here in Warren County and believe I can deliver that thoughtful, fair, empathetic approach to the role of Family Court Judge.

In my nearly two decades of legal experience, including serving as Queensbury Town Justice for almost ten years, I have seen firsthand the importance of thoughtful and fair decision-making. I am committed to ensuring that the Family Court reflects our community's values, providing an empathetic and practical approach to the issues families can face.

For children involved in custody and visitation matters, it's crucial to recognize that they are innocent parties in these situations --these children did nothing wrong and deserve stability and fairness. Their cases must be handled with the utmost care and understanding to serve their best interests. In juvenile justice cases, fairness is paramount and, while accountability is important, we must also focus on reducing pathways to recidivism, guiding our youth towards a better path.

Ultimately, I aim to bring my respectful, thoughtful, and common-sense approach from Queensbury Town Court to our County's Family Court; to strive to ensure that every individual, family, and case is treated with thoughtfulness and dignity.

At its core, Family Court should strengthen families and reflect our community’s values; and, that’s why I’m running—to provide my lifelong community the practicality, fairness, and empathy that its families and values deserve.
